I am always on the lookout for new ideas and new recipes. I try as many of them as I can, but there are so many there is no way I can try everything. Some things I really like; some things I don’t care for at all; and others are just meh.
I have a bunch of oranges I wanted to use, and came across a recipe for a simple orange mousse. The recipe sounded like a real winner. I liked it OK, but it wasn’t as good as I was hoping or expecting it to be. But I will definitely try it at least once more, if for nothing else, just to see if and how I can improve it. I am always open to all of your msuggestiopns too.

Simple Orange Mousse
I felt the mousse needed something else; a little more pizzazz, so I added cookie crumbs. I think adding cookie crumbs is a good idea, but the cookies I used were not.

enough oranges to give you about 1 1/2 cups of fresh juice, or just use orange juice
zest of 1-2 oranges
1/3 cup sweetened condensed milk + 2 TBSP
1/2 cup milk
1/4 cup cornstarch
3/4 cup whipped cream
Combine the juice, milk, 1/3 cup of the condensed milk and the cornstarch in a saucepan and cook and a medium high temperature, stirring constantly, until it thickens. Add some of the orange zest and mix together thoroughly. Then let it cool.

Whip the cream and the additional 2 TBSP of sweetened condensed milk together until it forms stiff peaks.

Fold in the cooled orange custard then beat to form stiff peaks once again.

Reserve some of the whipped cream and set aside. Pipe the cream into small cups or ramekins. Add a dollop of whipped cream to each cup then add an orange slice and some of the orange zest on top of each cup. Chill in the refrigerator until ready to serve.

There will always be things that don’t turn out exactly how we would like or expect. But never give up. You have to try things at least 3-4 or times, or as often as you like, sometimes tweaking things a bit before making your final judgements on them. If I gave up after only one attempt at things, I wouldn’t accomplish much or grow or learn from my mistakes at all. If at first you don’t succeed, try, try again. After all, Thomas Edison had 10,000 mistakes before he got it right for the light bulb. So, NEVER give up!
Make mistakes, learn from them, try to improve upon them and keep going. We all make mistakes. We should all learn from them. Life is too short to focus on our mistakes. Life is about the journey and all the adventures that come along the way, mistakes and all. Have a great day and make everyday great, no matter what you do. ‘Til next time.
