It was a two-walk kind of day. I did one walk by myself, earlier in the day, then Larry and I took Vinnie out for a walk when he came home from work. On my first walk, the lakes were pretty quiet at first. And then …… There was more than a little excitement when on the 4th lake I saw a big bull snake out sunning himself, right on the sidewalk. Not only do I HATE snakes, but I am very phobic of them as well. Nothing else bothers me. But SNAKES – YIKES!!!!!!!! Needless to say, my heart rate definitely rose a few beats and I quickly turned around and high tailed it in the other direction. Bull snakes are relatively harmless, but I DON’T CARE! I am NOT ever going to stop and make friends with ANY snake. EVER!!!!!!

The only good thing I can say about bull snakes, is that at least they kill the rattlesnakes, so for that I guess I am grateful. And we do have a ton of rattlesnakes out in our fields Other than that, I have NO need for them at all.
Fortunately, I did see other things that helped make my walk better. I still saw the goslings and the ducklings, and i got some good pictures of both, but I was a bit more wary of stopping for too long to take more pictures.

The goslings are becoming teenagers and growing up so fast. They were starting to learn how to use their wings too. Soon they will be flying high with the rest of the family.

Stay safe and stay well Everyone. And AVOID the snakes!!!!!!! ‘Til next time.
I like accompanying you on your walks.

I took them all except the photo of the snake. That was a stock photo. I have a hard time even looking at it. I almost took a picture of the snake, but I really just wanted to be as far away from him as possible as quickly as possible too.

It took me a while to get used to the snakes here in Florida. I found a snake literally climbing straight up one of the walls of our house once.

YIKES!!!!!!!! I know they are all around us, but I don’t think I can ever really get used to them. The strange thing though is that eels don’t bother me in the slightest. maybe because i know they are rally fish and not snakes, but they look like snakes and move like snakes. I have no idea. Strange, I know. 🙂

Eek! I’m right there with you on snakes. Since moving to AL from MA last year, I’ve had difficulty getting used to warnings about snakes and tornadoes.😱

Be careful! Both can be deadly.

That is the one thing I won’t do either… I HATE snakes. I don’t care if it’s the tiniest garter snake I’ll still scream and run faster than you’ve ever seen a person run. My kids like to give me crap for it and like to pretend they see snakes on our walks just to see me freak out.

I don’t mind snakes if they aren’t poisonous, but I’m not going to get close enough to see! I hate rattlesnakes, of course… and if I see a snake outside I’m going to assume it’s a rattlesnake and run! But overall, I don’t feel sick when I see a snake the way I do when I see a large spider. I have arachnophobia! Cute ducklings and I like the goslings’ big feet! 🙂

I don’t know what it is about spiders and snakes, but they sure do take their toll on us, don’t they?

Well, it was by accident really, and then I turned and walked away very quickly. I did not take this picture though. It is a stock picture. I had my camera, and I thought about it, but decided not to push my luck and walked away instead.

I am right there with you. I have always had nightmares about snakes too, even as a little girl. I really can’t even look at this picture. I have been avoiding it as much as possible.

Always the same dream…I fall into a pit of them and wake up…wake up in a sweat. That is me also.

Mine is always the same dream too. Everything I touch, as soon as I touch it, even the floors, would turn into snakes. When I was little, I would always run and jump into bed with my parents.

When I was a kid I was hiking with my older sister…she was 16 and I was 8…I was pretty dumb…she told me “a snake always bites the second one in line” and dumb me believed it. All of a sudden I stepped on a black racer around 4 foot long with bare feet…fastest I ever moved…I never let her forget it til this day.

Beautiful bull snake. Darling ducklings and goslings. I like all snakes. Rattlesnakes really help keep rodent populations down. Out here we get hantavirus and bubonic plague. Of all plague reported in the US, NM has had 50% of the cases, and many more people have died of hantavirus than rattlesnake bites over the years in NM. We have a use for rattlesnakes out here, and, frankly, I think ur rattlesnakes need to do a better job of eating rodents.
