We got together with our friends Julia and Bruce over the weekend. As you might recall, Julia and I met through the world of blogging and since have become very good friends. We have a lot in common and truly enjoy each other’s company. Julia’s blog is http://retirementrvdream.wordpress.com/. If you haven’t “met” Julia yet, you should stop by and say hi. Julia is a fabulous cook as well and there is always something scrumptious cooking in her kitchen. You will love what’s cooking in Julia’s kitchen too.
We started the day off with some wine tasting and officially introduced Bruce and Julia to our favorite local winery, InVINtions Video #17 – INVINtions, A Creative Winery, though they have enjoyed many a bottle of their wines with us at our house already. After wine tasting, we headed back their new “home”. Bruce and Julia have decided to hit the road and they now take their home with them everywhere they go. Their new “home” is an RV.
As far as RV’s go, this is top of the line and is both spacious and luxurious. I was amazed at the kitchen too. It is a full-sized, fully equipped kitchen that you would find in a house. Julia said Larry and I were their first dinner guests in their new “home”. We are honored. Julia prepared a fantastic steak fajita dinner for us, that we enjoyed outside at the picnic table before the rain hit. Though Julia’s new kitchen is amazing, she actually prepared our meal outside on the grill this time, which was perfectly OK with us. 🙂 Here she is grilling up the steaks to perfection along with some onions and poblano chilies.

Bruce and Julia’s new home.

Julia’s actual kitchen. It is hard to believe this is a kitchen in an RV, but it is.

Slicing the steak. It was cooked to absolute steak perfection too. It just melted in our mouths.

And voila! The fajitas are a culinary masterpiece. I loaded them up with some of Julia’s fantastic guacamole as well. For dessert, we had some sliced Palisade peaches Palisade Peach Salsa that Julia had seasoned with garam masala. That was a treat I never would have thought of, but they were so good!!!!!!

Once again, thank you Bruce and Julia for your delicious hospitality and for all the good times. We look forward to many, many more ahead.
Life is short. Do what makes you happy and don’t worry about the rest. Stay safe and stay well Everyone. ‘Til next time.
Wow, you’re right, it’s hard to believe that’s a kitchen in an RV! What fun!

Nothing to do with cooking in RVs — although that is an incredible RV — but the name Julia brought to mind a movie ‘Julie and Julia’ about a reporter cooking all of Julia Childs’ recipes for a book she wrote. Terrific movie with Meryl Streep as Julia.

Yes, my taste normally runs to adventure movies, but I did like that movie — which actually was an “adventure” for the young woman.

It was. I have actually been to the Julia Child exhibit at the Smithsonian too. It’s quite impressive. Both Julia Child and I are from Pasadena, California too. 🙂

How about that. Must be something in the Pasadena air that inspires an ambition to be a chef. Julia was a fascinating woman — and had a wonderful husband, according to the movie. My wife often used Julia’s recipes when she cooked — esp. lots of butter in the skillet or wherever, I forget.

maybe. I don’t know about that. What I do know is that you can never have to much butter. 🙂

We really enjoyed having you and Larry over for dinner and conversation. As you could tell by the tour, we are not the least bit proud of our new home. 🙂 Thanks so much for inviting us to InVINtions and bringing the wonderful charcuterie board. We had a fabulous time!

Awesome post. My family had an RV business in Florida for many years, so I especially enjoyed this. I love the grill she used, I’ve been looking at them a lot. The RV is also very nice. They’ve gotten sweeter in the 20 years I’ve been away from the business.

I liked that grill too. It had both a grill and a griddle side. Julia’s RV is very luxurious indeed. It has everything you could think of and then some. 🙂

Hi Jeanne if you are ever in our neck of the woods. Hume, MO. My husband is a chef he’s been on one episode for veterans on the Food Network. He’s the mayor of our tiny town. I’m sure he would love to be a guest chef with you. You do amazing and yummy work!

Thank you. that would be awesome. But in the meantime, he can still be a guest chef, either via videos or pictures. Just send everything to my email address, along with at least 1 photo or video of him. He can make whatever he likes, and I will feature him. My email address is ljbjej@q.com. I will be looking forward to seeing what he comes up with. 🙂

I have that grill. I haven’t tried to use it. I prep the meat and my husband grills it.
