We Could Use Some Prayers Right Now

This post is very different than all my other posts. I am asking for your thoughts and prayers for my Juneau, or my Juni Bug. She is my wild child, and we love her to bits. But this time, she got herself into a world of hurt. She literally ate one of her Christmas toys and the squeaker blocked her duodenum. We took her to the ER this morning at 3:30 AM. They had to perform surgery and removed part of her small intestine. She literally eats EVERYTHING. Fortunately we decided to get pet insurance for her. This morning’s surgery just cost us $4000. She is out of surgery now, resting and is on fluids, but she will have to stay at the vets all day today and through tomorrow. We should be able to visit her tonight. She is not out of the woods just yet, but her prognosis is looking good. Other than her blocked intestine and being a little dehydrated, she is healthy.

This looks so cute, and we laughed too, until she got blocked up and we had to take her to the ER. As soon as we got home, we threw away ALL of her toys.

My warning to ALL dog parents – DO NOT let them eat their toys. Please keep them safe. This was an expensive lesson we learned the hard way. Fortunately, Juneau’s prognosis is good. But it was still a BIG WAKE -UP CALL for us.

  1. Oh no! Our thoughts are with you. Let’s hope she is better soon!
I too have a new dog who eats EVERYTHING. He has swallowed an entire dish cloth, a half of a dish towel, a three-foot ribbon, most of my other dog’s hair, and almost swallowed a toy squeaker as well. We’ve had to get rid of all fabric toys! Don’t know what to do. I’ve tried the bitter spray stuff, but he seems to like it! My vet suggested the insurance, so I think that is a wise move.

  2. Oh Jeanne we are so very sorry about this. Yes of course we will be praying for her and you. Our sons dog kept eating things and had to have some removed so we know just what you are going through. Please keep us posted on her progress. Jean and Geg

  3. Oh man… I will definitely be praying. We had a Siberian Husky who loved to see what he was capable of swallowing too. One time, he swallowed a rolled-up pair of men’s tube socks. Like… gulp.

  4. I’m so sorry, Jeanne! I once had a mastiff that ate a corn cob (she found outside when Xmas tree hunting) with the same result. Fortunately she recovered fine from the surgery and I’m praying Juneau does as well. Sending great thoughts for all of you!

  5. My sister’s dog, Karma, used to eat her toys too and they never lasted very long. Then, I started buying children’s toys for her. Especially stuffed animals. They’re much more durable. It was rare that she got a real doggie toy after introduced to children’s toys.
Praying for you guys and your doggie!

  6. I’m so sorry Juni Bug had to have this surgery. It happens fairly often to dogs in the dog group I’m a member of, socks seem to be a favorite too. It’s so scary and expensive. Praying she is out of the woods soon and home with her loved ones recovering quickly.
