Colorado, like most of the United States and much of the world, is officially on lock down because of this COVID19 mess. We are still allowed to go out to the grocery stores and pharmacies, and anything that is deemed essential, but that is it. Even though we are allowed to go the grocery store, there is not a whole lot on the shelves to buy though.
This is Sprouts. These are the bulk bins where you can help yourself with as much as you need. EMPTY! Even the bins themselves are gone.
The bins that did have food items in them were already pre-packaged for you. You get what you get. Period! I bought a bag of couscous.
These shelves are usually filled to the rims with pre-packaged items. Not today.
I got what I could and what I needed at Sprouts, then went to King Soopers, our main grocery store. Things were even worse at King Soopers. I asked the checker if this was helping at all. She said NO. During these hours, the store is FULL and super crowded with people who are the most vulnerable.
Now they have even marked off where people are supposed to stand for “social distancing”.
I hope no one has the munchies. This is the snack aisle. Most of the munchies are all gone.
You didn’t want any jam or jelly with your bread did you?
No eggs or cheese for omelettes today.
It’s a good thing I think fresh is best. Nothing frozen at the moment. I got the last bag of frozen corn and two bags of frozen peas.
This is perfect if you are vegetarian or vegan, but we carnivores are SOL.
At least they did have toilet paper, but you can only buy 1 at a time.
So now the Government has decided to start helping out businesses and workers with checks and loans to help get everyone through these tough times, but sadly, for many, no matter what is given in aid, it is NEVER enough. The checker at Sprouts said “I wish we were getting money to cover our rent for a full year” even though she is still able to work and collect her normal paycheck, unlike so many others who are not able to do that right now. I honestly hope we can all pull through these tough times, but I have some very serious doubts. All I can say is God, help us! We certainly need it.
Stay safe everyone.
So sad to see the stores like that. Praying for everyone. This will all be over soon. God bless us all!

I certainly hope you are right. These are certainly the worst I have ever seen things.

I’ve heard a few times over the last week at the daily WH briefings that stores are fully stocked now and everyone is able to get what they need. Where?🤷🏻♀️

Not here, that’s for sure. 🙂

Things would get better if people stop panicking, hoarding and stay in. Be thankful there is toilet paper; there hasn’t been any where I live in 2 weeks.

People are acting like crazy, wild animals. And, the media is helping to make that worse.

What is that? Toilet paper? Wow a rare sighting.
Our company laid off a lot of people. In my department I have 1 guy and me in IT…working from home but I feel terrible for the others.
We do need help.

I know, right?! TP, a rare sighting indeed these days.
The sad thing is the longer this mandatory lockdown continues, the more people will be out of work, and a lot of these businesses might not be coming back any time soon, if at all.

I think it will sink many of them…some once giants like Sears and JC Penny who were on shaky ground, to begin with.

I just read yesterday that the Cheesecake Factory is closing too. I think it is going to hurt a lot of businesses, both large and small.

Thank you…I had to show you. We are seriously thinking of getting a little older one from a rescue to keep her company.

I think that’s a great idea. Lucie and Vinnie are the best of buds. They keep each other great company, not to mention, they get into all kinds of mischief together as well, or at least they did before Lucie got to old. But they love each other and are very close.

That is what Martha needs. The poor thing wants to play 24/7 and we can’t all of the time. She steals a shoe so we will chase her lol… She is by far the most active one we ever had. She even jumps up and catches a frisbee. Our others didnt do things like that….at least we know she is healthy

Vinnie is now 6, but he still acts like a puppy and is still very active. Lucie is 8 1/2 now, and she has slowed down considerably, but she still loves her love.

That is great… Both of our other ones lived to 9…that is the only sad part about Saints. I hope Lucie has a lot of years left. I’ve read some where they get to 12.
The Vet said Molly would have lived much longer but she got cancer. Our other one was 175lbs…not fat but just pure muscle…Molly was lean.
gosh I’m wearing you out in comments…sorry

Not at all. I LOVE it! Every day is a gift. Like you said, sadly, the bigger dogs have a much shorter life span. When we had our malamute, he lived to 10 1/2, and the vets told us he lived to a good, ripe old age. You just never know. All I can say, is love them while we can.

Yes we need to cherish every minute with them. We…and I’m pretty certain you do…they are a real part of our family. When we looked for a house it had to have a big fenced in backyard and a big one for her to go out at the time.
They are the most lovable…but STUBBORN…lol dogs ever. I’ve read where Great Danes life span was even shorter.

Definitely. All our fur babies are our children. Isn’t that the way it is supposed to be? Sadly, Great Danes only have a lifespan of between 5-8 years, because of their size. but, all we can do is love them, no matter how long we’ve got with them. 🙂

Here the only way to get anything is to go first thing in the morning, and then the shelves are quite fully stocked. (Yes, they are buying out entire grocery stores every single day. They are that crazy.) We set our alarm clocks to get there when the doors open.
I understand the logic of setting aside an hour to allow seniors to shop, but here in Florida (I don’t know about anywhere else) they are the biggest group engaging in hoarding, so it’s perversely letting the hoarders shop before everyone else. I feel so bad for low-income families because the only things the hoarders are leaving are kids’ snacks, sodas, and high-dollar items like organic foods. Like, I know you are out of work and your savings is dwindling, that’s why I am leaving you $7 Irish butter. At this point, I think they need to bring back the World War II practice of rationing. I don’t even know where they are putting all this stuff. Do they have deep-freezes lined up in their garages full of boneless skinless chicken breasts? A Great Wall of Canned Green Beans in their backyard? The truly sick thing is, after this is over, they are probably just going to throw it all away.
My husband bought toilet paper the other day and the old man behind him started screaming – SCREAMING – at the cashier because the rolls in my husband’s pack of toilet paper were bigger than his, so he should be allowed to buy two. I’ve never seen so much selfish and disgusting behavior in my life.

I know. These are definitely crazy, desperate times. Rationing is probably a very good idea in times like this. President Trump has claimed he is a “war time President”, and I agree with that, and i think rationing right now would follow along that wartime frame of mind.

Hi Jeanne, glad you are keeping well amidst the chaos. The shelves look much the same here in England too. They have an early opening hour set aside for the NHS staff and the elderly here, before anyone else can shop, so at least the key workers and the vulnerable have everything they need. Stay safe and well x

I sent my husband to the local grocery store senior hour, 7 a.m. yesterday. He got there right at 7 and the parking lot was crammed, the store was crammed, and nothing was restocked; no tp, no potatoes, very little in the way of frozen or canned, and they had pop-up displays of beer all over. People were pretty good about distancing, but it was a lot of people and we won’t be going there again. I’ll stick to my little co-ops and time it when I think it will be the quietest.

Good idea. I wish we had more co-ops here. that would be a great way to shop.

So sorry Jeanne! our shops were like this a week or 2 ago, but now people have calmed down and stopped panic buying, they have restocked pretty well, hope the same for you xxx
