Just Don’t Have it in Me Today

I wanted to cook something special and share it with all of you today, but this week has been one gut punch after another after another.  I work with the public, and have my whole life, but lately, people are just down right AWFUL.  I have been yelled at twice for simply following the rules and asking if people needed help, but what happened today was the worst.  I got accused of being a racist simply because I told two people, who just happened to be of color, they needed to leave that part of the pool until my class ended or they could take my class. They were fine, apologized and left with no issue.  It was some other jerk, who wasn’t even a participant in my class and was not involved in the situation at all, who just felt like he needed to step in and tell me I was a racist for no reason, without having any idea what the rules of the pool are or what the situation was.  When I tried to explain to him that it is a safety precaution for all involved not to have people jump in the pool and play around while a class is going on, he just refused to listen and kept insisting I was a racist.  And this was all just this week alone.  Sometimes, I really hate people.  So I apologize, but I just don’t have it in me today.  I have been completely beat up by strangers without a clue, all for just trying to follow the rules and do the right thing.

  1. My wife works in Customer Service and only has done it for a year… She is the verbal punching bag…No way I would last at all…I would tell them a few things and there goes the job. I could not deal with the public.
    Hope your weekend gets better!

    1. I feel her pain. Working with the public can be both very rewarding and very brutal at the same time. Fortunately, most of the people I work with are good people and I really enjoy them. But it only takes those few bad seeds to really ruin your day.

    1. Thank you. I don’t understand that either. This whole week has been like that. On Sunday, when I first got in to teach my class, there was a young woman with her young child looking as if she needed help. I asked her if I could help and she yelled at me to leave her alone and to get out of her face, a couple of times. I told her I worked at the rec center, and she just kept yelling at me to leave her alone and get out of her face. On Thursday, in the women’s locker room, there was a mother with her autistic son, who was about 9-10 years old, changing him in the women’s locker room. It was an uncomfortable situation for everyone. I told her we had family locker rooms where she might be more comfortable, and she yells at me that she was “very offended” by what I said. HMMMM. Well what about all the women who were offended by having a boy of that age ogling at them while they showered and changed. When I went to the front desk to make them aware of the situation, they told me it was none of my business and that they are the ones who get paid for that, not me. OK. Well last month, we had a situation with an autistic young adult male where we actually had to call the cops on him for indecent exposure, and he was stalking me. All I was told by our management staff was that “he’s autistic and has special needs. He didn’t know what he was doing”. Well, he did when he started French kissing the window and he pulled down his pants in front of everyone. And then this incident yesterday, by someone who was white, but he felt I was being a racist just because I told two people, of color, they could not be horsing around in the pool during my class. I tell, you, our world is getting worse and worse everyday. And sadly, lately, it’s all bee coming to me.

  2. You encountered a Twitter troll out in the wild, lol. As the philosopher Marcus Aurelius said, “The best revenge is to be unlike the person who did you harm.”

      1. It’s a very strange time to be raising a young child too, I have to say. I think all the time about the bad behavior our daughter has been exposed to that we just never saw growing up. The way people talk to each other, the way they talk about out country, about religion. I have had so many conversations with her about communicating with respect and tolerance and what to do when someone expresses violent or unstable behavior. Take your guy and now imagine him with children, and your kid encounters the kind of kids he’s raising on the playground. In elementary school, they already think it is acceptable to get up in someone’s face and scream at them. And they wonder why school violence is such a problem now… Look at the parents’ toxic social interactions.

Alas, this too shall pass. It was less than 15 years from hippies to preppies. There will eventually be unanimous cultural blow-back to the identity politics garbage and calling everyone you don’t like a fascist.

  3. I think it’s only going to get worse. The DNC is going to take the election away from Bernie…..then they will all lose their minds when they lose in November! Trump has two new guys cleaning house from too to bottom…..he should have fired all the Obama holdovers three years ago!!

  4. It’s not nice to be on the end of that word, especially when someone shouts it completely inappropriately. I see it more and more frequently in the medical practice I work in. We have had patients demand a prescription for a particular medication, when the doctors will not prescribe it, the patient throws a tantrum and accuses the doctor of racism.

I worked with a colleague who would not help clean or date check medical stock and would sit on a footstool where he though nobody saw him and play on his phone. I put up that with a whole year until I finally got upset and said was being lazy. He responded by calling me racist. I was baffled. But anyone who knows me, my family and my friends would see that we are one huge mix of ethnic and cultural backgrounds – never would anyone use that word about me. He was deliberately using that word to cause controversy and hurt.

Racism is a very real and ugly attitude…but when someone uses it to accuse someone inappropriately, it causes a lot of hurt.

    1. Thank you. You are absolutely right, there are no words when stupidity is involved.

I am tough, with big, broad swimmer’s shoulders, so most things get brushed away fairly quickly. If they even bother me at all, which this one obviously did, they don’t last for too long. Life is too short to have it ruined by other people’s stupidity and insensitivity. 🙂 And you are absolutely right, we have a great WP blogger’s community that offers great support and is very therapeutic.
