The last couple of days have been pretty stressful for me. The best way to wind down and de-stress, at least for me, is with a glass or two of wine. When the temperatures drop, it is even better to relax in front of the fire with that wine. And to make it just perfect, add a good book to the mix. Ahhhh! Perfection! This is the best way to unwind and get away from the world.
Wine is truly a gift from above and has been revered throughout the times. Here are a few things that others have to say about the “nectars of the Gods”.
“Wine is like the incarnation – it is both divine and human”
~ Paul Tillich, Philospoher and Theologian ~
“When it comes to wine, I tell people to throw away the vintage charts and invest in a corkscrew. The best way to learn about wine is the drinking”.
~ Alexis Lichine, Wine Writer ~
“To rich and poor alike hath He granted the delight of wine, that makes all pain to cease”.
~ Euripedes, one of the ancient Greek tragedians ~
“Great wine requires a madman to grow the vine, a wise man to watch over it, a lucid poet to make it, and a lover to drink it”.
~ Salvador Dali, surrealist artist ~
“Accept what life offers you and try to drink from every cup. All wines should be tasted; some should only be sipped; but with others, drink the whole bottle”.
~ Paulo Coelho, Brazilian novelist ~
I think that one of the things about wine is that you drink it slowly, you naturally savor it, little sip by sip. This slows you down, and puts you in the moment.

Oh, and I have a food idea for you. So, we get Durham’s brand praline pecans here. Being in the South, I have no idea if this is available to you in Denver. But if you have access to pralines, they are the perfect – and I mean PERFECT – companion to sweet potatoes. I put the pralines in a plastic bag and crush them with a meat cleaver. Then I make pureed sweet potatoes like the traditional Thanksgiving dish to bake in the oven, but I put a layer of crushed pralines on the top. We did this as a whim last year, and it was a total game-changer with turkey.

That one is a good one. The best way to learn about wine is just to open it up and drink it. I could not agree more. 🙂

Nice post. After having spent many years in the Food and Beverage industry as a chef, restaurant manager, divisional F & B manager, wholesale wine and liquor sales it amazes me how people can sit and eat a fine meal and only drink coke or ice tea. ( OK I know some people have a problem with alcohol but drink water then so you can enjoy the true flavor of the food! ) Those beverages do nothing to enhance the meal. Wine is the kiss of the meal!
Cheers!
