The Kitchen Will Be Closed Until Further Notice

I have some sad news.   I was a victim of our latest snomeggedon.  I fell yesterday in the snow while letting the dogs out.  I thought for sure I had broken my wrist, but the x-rays did not show any breaks.  The doctor said it is a severe sprain, although I have to go in for more x-rays next week, just to make sure there are no hairline fractures.  The doctor called it “Foosh” accident – fell on out-stretched hand.  I have to wear a brace until I go back to the doctor next week, if not longer.  It is my right hand and I am very right hand dominant.  It is very swollen, and extremely sore and tender, and I have very limited mobility.  I am typing very slowly, and making a lot of mistakes.  I should be wearing my brace right now, but I took time out to let you all know why the kitchen will be closed for a minimum of a week.  I definitely feel the sharp pains all through my wrist and my arm if I move my hand to much.  There is no way I can cook.  I can barely move my hand, and holding anything is out of the question.  You never know how much you use certain parts of your body until the time comes when you can’t move them.  So, for all of you who live in snow country, BE CAREFUL out there.  We don’t need any more casualties of snomeggedon.

I apologize for this absolutely AWFUL picture of me, but …. I will blame it on my accident.   Of course, my left hand is still able to hold a glass of wine, Chardonnay, none the less, so I am still able to do the important things in life.  🙂

  1. Feel better soon! It’s so hard when it hurts to do the things you love 🙂 We got snow, rain, more snow, high winds followed by more snow and more rain here. It’s crazy slippery and yucky outside my warm and comfortable kitchen. For now, while you heal, plan all the things you will do later when you can use your hand again!

      1. Saskatchewan 🙂 I am still healing from pulled ligaments in my arm (not snow related), which is slowly getting better. At least I can reach a coffee cup in my cupboard with that arm now lol. The healing process can be long but we can’t rush these things! Advice I wish I would have listened to a long time ago haha.

  2. If the chardonnay is really good maybe you can also pour a bit on your left hand and see what happens. If not, drink it and enjoy it anyway. May you feel better soon. ❤ ❤

    1. On Saturday I dropped a can of peas on my big toe. The can hit right where the bottom of the nail meets the skin! Holy cow! If I wasnt standing in Harris Teeter, I would have yelled the F word at the top of my lungs! It hurt so bad I was in tears. Its black and blue and it hurts when I walk!🤢 Getting older sucks!

Why do they call the elbow your funny bone? Theres nothing funny about it when you bang it or land on it, is there?

  3. I’m sorry to read this… When I read your more recent post, I thought “the kitchen is closed??!? What did I miss again??”

I hope you feel better really soon! I suffered a severe ankle sprain years ago, and I still remember how much it hurt the first night… I wanted my back then boyfriend to cut my foot off!! Take care, rest a lot, and keep the good wine flowing!

Here’s to having you back in the kitchen soon!! Cheers!! 😉

    1. Thank you. I am not planning on closing down the kitchen permanently, so no worries there. I just need to close it down until I can cook again. My wrist is getting better already. I think the wine is definitely helping out a lot. 🙂 I don’t think I have ever had a sprain before. I never knew how much they hurt. I am still wondering if there is a fracture though. I have a little bit more mobility, but it is still swollen, and I cannot move it up or down. I go back to the doctor next week. I will keep you all posted. Thank you for your story and the loving thoughts. The plan is to be back in the kitchen again real soon. 🙂
